I have been contemplating his since I had my surgey in July. I guess we will stay home this year so I need to find the smallest Turkey possible.  I usually cook a 22 lb. turkey.

So, we wll have turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, & stuffing.  I will make 1 pumkin and 1 apple pie.  Guess I will eat some turkey, and MP.  As for the stuffing and green bean casserole which are my absolute favorites, I will have a teaspoon of each just to get it out of the way.  As for pie maybe a 1/2 of  slice while watching TV and looking through black friday sales.

Hoping to have only turkey and stuffng left over.  Everyone in my house can make sand's w/ what is left and I can use th turkey to make tacos or enchiladas.

I have even informed my family there will be no dinner rolls or gravy.  If I set out appetizers it will be cheese and maybe some crackers.  I am fine with just cheese.

Since there is only 4 of us and I do the shopping, cooking and cleaning I guess what ever I do or say goes.

It's great to be QUEEN!!!

Gus, you are doing an awsome job of maintaining and you have the right attitude about working out.

What plans does everyone else have to handle eating during the holidays?

What this all comes down to, it is one day.  One day a year that you have to watch what you eat.  If you fail on this day, you don't fail....the very next day you go back to basics.  It's just another day with different foods.  Life is not about eating, it's about life, friends and family and loving one another.  You will have to deal with the Holidays for the rest of your life.  This is a lifestyle change.  Planning is the best bet, so think about it now, write down what you plan on doing and stick to your plan, but like I said, you cannot fail, expecially when you look back and see how far you have come.

Enjoy the Holidays all.  I know I am.  I am happy to be alive and healthy, enjoying life.  I love what Annette said about the exercise, it's enough to stop me from eating too!!!  lol

Hi Gus.

Thanks for posting this.  Someday I will be able to eat food again and it's always a realitly check when i see postings from people that are so far out.  Food WILL ALWAYS be an issue.   There are some days that I am not sure if this stricture is a blessing or a curse! In one way I can't wait to be able to eat food again.....but then on the other side...I think "oh Crap" I will be able to eat food again.  It's like I will still have to learn how to eat all over again.  When I read your post along with others and see that it's still a challenge to eat right...it just helps put things into perspective and brings me back to earth when i realize this is a lifetime committment....to eating right and exercising.

Anyways I know I am rambling, but you guys are such a HUGE support in my life...even tho there are so many of you I have never met.

The holidays are about family not food.

I plan on enjoying the time with my family.  I will try to eat as normally as I do now and exercise the usual portion control. I do not snack between meals, so I will fill that in between time catching up with family and playing with my cousins.  I am hoping that it is a nice day so I can be outside goofing off.  Also, my family is very interested in my progress and supportive so they will most likely be watching me and the choices I make.  WLS has not only changed me, but its changed my family for the better and helped them to realize how important it is to take care of ourselves.  There will be lots of Thanks Giving Prayers going on too!

Love & Hugs!

I was thinking about this today too.  I just graduated to pureed food this week.  My plan was to puree mashed potato, turkey and fat free gravy together to equal 1/2 cup and have that as my Thanksgiving meal.  As I was walking through the grocery with all the holiday food out I started thinking, "well it's Thanksgiving, I can have a cup full of food."  I can't play this game so early out.  I am going to pack my own cooler and have my little 1/2 cup meals with me.  I am going to stick to my plan for the day.  I have been counting too - ounces of liquids, fats, carbs, sugars and proteins.  I have started making sure that I wait a 1/2 hour after drinking before I eat and a 1/2 hour after I eat before I drink like my doctors binder states.  I am going to do all these things Thanksgiving Day just like it was any other day of the week.

My goal for the day is to have everything planned and prepared so I can enjoy being around my family instead of hiding behind all the food.

I love this topic, everyone has had such great responses too! I am hosting Thanksgiving this year, and doing all the cooking. My family is SO DYSFUNCTIONAL about food. There is never enough, it's all about how it tastes, how much you're eating, what you're taking home, and it often makes me kind of sick.

Maybe I'm still weird about food because I do like having people around to cook for.

All I had really planned on doing was running my 10k the morning of the holiday and going back to basics the very next day.  This thread has prompted me to think more about my choices though and how will I get thru the day without grazing if I'm going to be cooking for up to 10 people?

Don't get me started on the alcohol, because I'm looking forward to having a nice glass of wine.

Thanks for posting this, I have alot to think about!

Well, I am pre op- so this is going to be an interesting holiday for me this year. Mostly cause I have food logs due to my Options Class on the 3rd for that week.

But with my determination and the help of my support team at home( my hubby and son) I think I will do fine.

God bless our troops
